Researching the ancient global rock writings known as petroglyphs and pictographs, and then incorporating them into her paintings has been Ingrid’s passion. In search of these endangered images, her travels have taken her to Australia, Africa, China, Europe, and many areas of the U.S.A. She uses her hand made paper and textural surfaces to recreate the excitement and emotional response felt when one discovers these illusive ancient images in the field. Ingrid also enjoys painting loose expressive paintings in watercolors, and mixed media, and teaches painting classes and workshops in collage, monotype, and Creating ON Water out of her studio.

Chad creates Portables, altars built into small boxes or objects similar to them. His inspiration is drawn from America’s ungratefulness concerning easily replaceable objects and change towards mobile devices that accomplish similar tasks, such as cell phones phasing out landlines and payphones.

We are surrounded by “still life” snap shots of what is concrete in our daily lives– the table of seemingly random yet cohesive objects or the light through a tree on the city sidewalk. For some these moments never matter; they are never captured on the canvas of the mind. For me it is more. It is an intellectual challenge laid out before me in the form of three pears on an antique table; a glimpse into how each of us uses and relates to these objects. I seek to imagine the story behind the façade– the how, the why, and the relationship of each object to each other and to the whole composition. Using a palette of brilliant richness and jewel colors, each painting is executed with deep respect for the layers and artistry of the Masters.

The narratives which I produce are depictions of concepts. My work is informed by the fact that I am a woman, an Israeli by birth, the daughter of Shoah (Holocaust) survivors and a Jew. I make religious, cultural and geographical references to these themes in my art. The process for creating the pieces begins with a written thought on which I build visual images. I then hone the composition with finished pen and ink drawings prior to completing the paintings. By using specific colors, poses, objects and observational view points, I load each pastiche with meaning. I apply upwards of ten layers on the surface. My technique of painting in acrylic on wood panel, uses the living grain of the wood to enhance the interior movement of the painting.

Why corn? It is solidly Midwestern, like I am. I have found through the deep exploration of corn, more than its history and imagery, but the fundamentals of humanity itself.

Bright Endeavors is a social enterprise and outreach program that utilizes renewable, green resources to create job opportunities for homeless and at-risk young women between the ages of 16 -25. Through the production of Dreambean Candles we used renewable resources to create renewed spirits. Dreambean Candles manufactures a line of natural candles made from vegetable waxes, and reclaimed bottles to create high-end products. Our products are available for purchase from specialty retail stores, online retailers, corporate clientele and at the Bright Endeavors’ website.

I have always been captivated by the colors and the textures of cloth. I create my own fabric, hand-dyeing, screening, painting, stitching, and using other surface design elements that the piece demands, going wherever the composition takes me. My Impressionist Landscapes are inspired by nature. I try to convey a sense of peace and serenity, and it is my hope that the viewer will let go of the demands of daily life and step into that moment.
