Camargo, Nico
Born in Bogotá and arriving in Chicago at 14, my aesthetic intuition and conceptual ideation comes directly from growing up, living, and working in these environments. Circumstances have made me a keen observer of my surroundings, and my landscapes are a result of memory and experiences. All work is based on topics I’m most curious about: urban planning, society, ecology, and modernity —and how these, as concepts, could be applied in order to improve civilization.

The art work focuses on natural processes of transformation within the personal realm and expressed in various forms within the physical. Cox, Sarah

The definition of recycling can be described as “to extract and reuse.” My line re-creART is taking this idea of extracting a recyclable item and reusing to make something new, useable, and artistically unique. But it doesn’t stop there. Everything is designed to be multifunctional for example a wedding cake topper can be reused as a photo holder. The possibilities are endless.

Cuevas, Dan

A self-taught artist, Cuevas is best known for his urban, architectural landscapes and still life botanicals. When viewing his paintings, it is easy to see how they reflect his true knowledge of his subjects, paying meticulous attention to line, form, detail and color. Cuevas’ approach is inspired by the past, but reflects today’s modern styles. He strives to create art that is contemporary, tranquil and edited of unnecessary detail. “We should be able to surround ourselves with beautiful art in our homes and offices, not just when we visit museums and galleries. I am truly grateful to be able to make a living doing something that gives me so much satisfaction,” says Cuevas on the subject of painting.

Dangel, Helga Dangel, Helga

My curiosity and deep appreciation for American culture grew by my studies and collaborative work in Bronzeville. The reflections on the Cultural Revolution of the 1960’s, the people involved in social change, and the Black Power Movement informed a series of paintings related to the significance of the fist as a powerful symbol of hope, freedom, and unity. New emblems surrogate those monuments. However, equivalent representations of a democratic spirit have not yet been found. This series speaks to the notion that every member of a democracy seeks emancipation and asserts the desire for equal rights. As an artist and educator I am deeply concerned about rising violence and inequality.

Dytch, Meredith Dytch, Meredith

I focus on aspects of the City that often go unnoticed – the back yards, alleys, and areas under El tracks that are so typical of Chicago neighborhoods, or rainy sidewalks and alleys in the Loop. These are all places where I can feel the distinctive energy of the urban environment. I work in limited palettes which I believe are the perfect medium for capturing the moods and colors of the City.
