David Schalliol is the Visiting Assistant Professor of Social Sciences at the Illinois Institute of Technology and a Ph.D. student in the Department of Sociology at the University of Chicago. Siebert, Gwyndolyn
My latest series Internal Rotation, explores the balance between the physical and the intangible. This work centers on developed x-rays [on fiber based photography paper], natural objects and handwritten literary selections. I am intrigued by the passage of time within memory and the natural progression of internal light within a life. The fleeting spark of a multidimensional humanizing personality captured in a two dimensional x-ray. My worldwide travels and my own personal heroes are reflected within this artwork. Many of my subjects are literary figures or my family. By using found objects in the image, the personality of each of the figure’s internal desires, and fears are projected. The titles are the first names of the hero. Thereby, leaving the audience to interpret and assess the subject’s desires through the revealing visual clues or written passages. The first names also allow for an intimacy and personal connection with the cold x-rays peering into the internal, mortal body. Currently, I have been working on larger matted and framed artwork for Internal Rotation. If accepted, I will be able to exhibit the images I am submitting and also similar works in this series measuring 16” x 20”. RAW Location: 3701 N. Ravenswood |

Thompson, Jeanette
Paint has always been my primary choice of expression until fabric as a medium first captured my attention in 2006. Today I paint with a palette of fabric and thread to create collages, often appliquéd and machine quilted, sometimes with hand embellished details to create forms, textures and visual sensations. Influenced by my background in painting, I like to play with shapes and use bold color combinations. Working with fabric differs from any other medium because of the tactile sensations created when handled and worked through the sewing machine. Fabric patterns, textures, and color combinations allow for more complex textural depth in my work that was lacking using paint alone. I try to create images in my pieces that evoke a mood or atmosphere and provoke an emotional response from the viewer. This quest results in work primarily based on my personal experiences.
