Chicago Artists Month

Ravenswood ArtWalk is proud to be a part of the Chicago Artists Month, the annual celebration of Chicago’s vibrant visual arts community.

Each October, over 200 events ranging from exhibitions to open studio tours and neighborhood art walks take place at museums, galleries, cultural centers and other locations throughout the city.

The primary goal of Chicago Artists Month (CAM) is to better acquaint the public with Chicago’s artists and their work and to raise awareness of the quality and depth of our visual arts community.

City as a StudioThis year’s theme, “The City as Studio,”explores the impact of the urban environment on Chicago artists and their work, and the contributions that artists make to the vitality of our city. The place where art is imagined and made, whether in a physical or virtual space, affects the idea, the process and the final product. And the art, once created, leaves a mark on the place it occupies. Chicago Artists Month 2010 looks at how the city influences art and artists, and how artists transform the city by contributing to civic dialogue and quality of life.

Related programs might include exhibitions of interactive artwork, projects that involve artistic collaboration, or work that invites audience feedback, with or without the use of technology.
