Serbian Singing Society Branko Radichevich S.S.S. Branko Radichevich (“Brankies”), named after the Serbian lyric poet and established in 1906, is the oldest Serbian choral ensemble in North America. While their repertoire consists mostly of Serbian composers of both sacred and secular music, they also sing songs from other cultures. Performing a cappella, their programs offer unusual and interesting pieces rarely heard in this country. Brankies have used the rich Serbian musical opus to keep the traditions and culture of their forefathers vibrant. Now they hope to bring that culture to a wider non-Serb audience. | Yvi Russell Fantasy and realism intermix in my art. I often work without a precise narrative stimulus and the final product reveals subconscious themes that are open to interpretation. At other times, an autobiographical stimulus sets in motion the spontaneous physical process of engraving the plate, while a continuously changing sketch guides and expands the original concept. When the composition is almost finished, a coherent form emerges, shaped by universal themes such as permanence and decay, transformation and stasis.
