Camilla KruegerI became completely captivated by feltmaking after taking two courses at LIllstreet Art Center about three years ago. Since then I’ve been absorbed in creating feltworks and learning more and more about wool and other fibers. My initial attempts were flat pieces of felt that I fashioned into little sculpted bags with felted cords for hanging; eventually I learned how to use a resist, which allows me to make seamless bags, vessels and clothing. At this time I’m making mostly hats (I love making hats!) and nuno-felted patchwork vests using wool fiber and silk and rayon fabrics. What I like most about this process are the surprises that come from fusing wool and silk to create an entirely new fabric: nunofelt.RAW Location: 1802 Berteau 2nd Floor

Carol FletcherMy photographs are of the near & far, daydream & reality. I’m haunted by the forgotten, the old—the fading ambiance, the mystery of a once bigger world, the wisps of disappearing places & ways. I want to capture the light, colors & moods of a place, of a person…the quiet of the early mornings, the patterns to the days, the glow of twilight & the meanings in the nooks & crannies. Inspired by old linen postcards, hand-tinted glass slides, & abandoned “Grand Tour” ephemera that remains, I look for ways to give my prints a touch of the old times with alternative processing—layering textures, colors & collage in my digital darkroom. I shoot with 9 cameras (film & digital): Nikon SLRs, Twin Lenses, Holgas & Polaroids. Photos are available in multiple sizes/prices, framed and/or matted.RAW Location: 4611 N. Ravenswood 2nd Floor

Catherine Schwalbe-BouzideArtist statement My art explores aging, agriculture, nature and science, the concepts of plenty and want, reuse, food systems, and being human through a variety of media including high-fired clay, artist books, growing, installation, found objects, events, fiber and bronze. Why corn and other things related? It is solidly Midwestern, like I am. I have found through the deep exploration of corn, more than its history and imagery, but the fundamentals of humanity itself.RAW Location: 4401 N. Ravenswood (Lillstreet)

Cheryl AppScarves and ties in heavy weight pure silk dyed with plant materials such as leaves, flowers, nuts, and berries to create sublte multi-layered colors and patterns. Natural colors vary with the direction of light and the intesity of light. The month long processing of the silk and plant materials produces soft unique color. These ties and scarves are hand washable in Woolite, just roll in a towel to dry. All plant materials are from my home garden in Northern Illinois, and are composted at the end of the process.RAW Location: 3711 N. Ravenswood 1st Floor

Christine WatkinsI’ve been painting in Ravenswood for several years and most of my work reflects the things I see as I’m coming and going from the studio, sometimes from afar. There is often some kind of path—a line, a river, a road, a kind of route from one place to another. The paintings reflect landscapes both real and imagined, for me a source of constant visual interest, illuminated by weather, direction, time of day and year, mood and memory.RAW Location: 4541 N. Clarence H. LindseyBeen painting and drawing for 35 yrs now, and it been a journey, and very exciteing, to be doing, shows, and gallery exhibits, but mainley my paintings represent, me and my style of brush strokes.RAW Location: 1802 Berteau 2nd Floor
Clark EllithorpeMy paintings evolve through the manipulation of collaged shapes, which are painted into and also “pulled out” using scrapers, resists and masking materials. My influences are a blend of an early scientific background, 1950′s abstract expressionism and “art brut”, (Dubuffet, etc). I am intrigued by the juxtaposition of archaeologic-like layering of the surface with the subsequent lyrical-expressive application of paint.RAW Location: 4043 N. Ravenswood Suite 207

Corinne D. PetersonFor me, artmaking is a force for developing connections between past and present, between opposing forces of nature, between intellect and subconscious and between me and my artistic materials. I work mainly with abstracted forms of architecture and nature. In my newest work, I use openings to explore elusive inner life, its shifts and mysteries, as it relates to outer life. Working with clay connects me to my early roots of growing up on a Minnesota farm. The colors I use come primarily from rocks, leaves, and other bits of nature I’ve collected and studied since childhood. I use layers of color and fill cracks with dark tones for a sense of history. I intend for each work to expose evidence of its own past, much as a person reveals an accumulation of his or her experiences.RAW Location: 4401 N. Ravenswood (Lillstreet)

Cynthia WeissCynthia Weiss, Artist Statement In my studio practice and public art making, I create work that builds a narrative whole from the juxtapositions of parts. I construct mosaics, mixed-media work, and paintings, piece by piece, until the meanings resonate in the associations between each part. I am conceptually drawn to this collage aesthetic as a way to uncover relationships between different languages of expression and between the artist and audience. For me, it is in the space between things where the most powerful metaphors reside. I seek to make work that repairs, reassembles and re-imagines. I am interested in art processes that invite personal and public constructions of meaning about lives worth living, through attentiveness to the natural world.RAW Location: 4541 N. Ravenswood, 4th Floor.

Daniel NolanI enjoy creating with tinted resin due to its unique properties. Resin is a result of a quick chemical reaction; therefore the amount of each component is crucial, otherwise the resin will not cure or dry. Because it is quick, it often allows me less than 20-30 minutes to manipulate it like paint. Resin has a sense of depth to it depending on the color and layer combination. The one way I use resin similar to how I may use acrylic paint. I “paint” layer over layer to get a play of the colors, texture, and light reflection. The dry time between layers can be as much as 24 hours if I want no interaction of the colored layers. Many of pieces have 6-14 layers so I may take several weeks for just one piece.RAW Location: 1770 Berteau #205

Deborah Maris LaderIf you visit my studio at the Chicago Printmakers Collaborative, the work is so varied that it might appear to have been created by different artists, or maybe “Sybil”. I use whatever medium and method necessary to present an honest vision at any given moment, and don’t stand on ceremony or adhere to a particular style. My diagnosis might be “Creative A.D.D.”. My etchings are overwhelmed by detail and minutia, and my mixed media paintings are somewhat spare. And then there’s also the band I’m in, an 18-yr old AltFolk outfit called Sons of he Never Wrong (www.sons.com). Somehow, all of these diverse expressions come out of the same brain. I just use what I can to express the encyclopedic visual world that surrounds me and keeps the endless movie in my head on “play”. Welcome to my planet.RAW Location: 1807 Sunnyside 1A

Doug LiaMy ditigal photography centers around nature-what is out your back door. “Out in the garden” would be an appropriate title of a good percentage of my work. I like to use the sky-whether blue or gray or somewhere in-between-as a background for my shots. All my photography is original-I use the sun, shadows and time of day instead of photoshop.RAW Location: 4043 N. Ravenswood

Edith RobertsonPatience is not my forte except when I work in metals. It sooths me! And makes me content. I especially like to do married metals; i.e. to combine different colors of metal, which have to be soldered and then become my inspiration for a piece My inspirations come from many sources — nature, sculpture, fabric, colored stones, found objects (rocks, beach glass, coral, etc.) — sometimes my designs and ideas stem from a dream (I actually see a finished piece). I don’t often sketch but instead play with the metal and stones until I arrive at what seems to be a satisfactory solution. It gives me great pleasure to do custom work — i.e. take your stone (maybe from a sentimental piece of jewelry or heirloom) – and create a contemporary setting: be it a ring or pendant.RAW Location: 4401 N. Elena RakochyMy work is primarily organic, inspired by nature and by the natural connections that we have with people and our surroundings. What most interests me is how relationships I have with other people, with my community, my environment, and with myself, influence how I make my decisions. How much control do we have over our options and how much is dictated by circumstances beyond our control? How does the mind fit into it all? How much control can I affect? My sculptures are physical manifestations of the thought patterns that direct my decisions; abstractions of the paths that I follow. These sculptures interact both with the spaces they occupy and the spaces they create: just like people have to consider both their surroundings and the effect they have on what is around them.RAW Location: 4401 N. Ravenswood (Lillstreet)

Emily RapportI paint scenes of daily life that reflect a distinctly American experience: El tracks, store windows, fast food drive-thrus, houses and people. Painting is an active mediation on the symbols and experiences that connect us.RAW Location: 1800 W. Cornelia

Emily Schroeder WillisAll of my work is handbuilt pinched porcelain that, due to the way my fingers touch the clay, creates a distinctive texture. Human presence and the mark of the hand are important to my work, which steps back to a time where making art isn’t about production, but the touch of a fingertip.RAW Location: 4401 N. Eric M. WeinsteinAs an artist, I am primarily interested in ideas and feelings that occur within the inner landscape of my mind. Historically I have been a person of few words and limited avenues to express myself until I discovered pen, paper and paints. As I have grown older and matured I do not feel as stuck as I had been in the past, but in terms of expressing my self via art, it has become a regular and necessary part of me as a person. My work comes for the most part from my subconscious. On occasion I will have an image or a feeling in mind when I begin. All the work starts with the same gesture on the left-hand side of the page: the same creation of a head, a nose and two eyes and the rest of the drawing or painting follows from there and I begin to fill the page.RAW Location: 1800 W. Cornelia #201

Erik VillagomezErik Villagomez (1981) is mixed media artist from Chicago, Illinois. His work is often a result of random doodling and “screwing around” in his sketchbook at inappropriate moments in life (school, work, social settings, etc). Growing up on the south side of Chicago, his love of art began when he was a young child admiring the playful and sometimes colorful graffiti sprayed on his neighborhood walls. To him these were like going to an art gallery. He admits that his work is often a bit naive and sometimes pointless but his desire to create a thing of beauty out of nothing is always there. “Create ART and be happy” is his motto.RAW Location: 1802 Berteau 2nd Floor

Eva BialeckiWith every painting that I create, another one is showing itself to me in my peripherals. I’m bombarded with visions more intense than the previous and my hunger and aggressive determination to become the most honest artist I can be grows increasingly voracious. It is a hunger that can never be completely satiated, and that is my overwhelming, exciting and comforting reality. What it does satisfy, however, is the human connection. Art has allowed me to construct an intersecting bridge with others on a grand scale; with those I would never have been able to encounter otherwise. It is an incredible honor to get the chance to touch someone to the deepest core without saying a word. We were complete strangers, drawn together by art.RAW Location: 1802 Berteau 2nd Floor
