Mandy Adamick - MadcanvasesMandy creates digital black and white photography collages which are sublimated onto canvas fabric and ceramic tiles. She is a self-taught digital artist and uses her own photographic images as a base before manipulating them into an abstract, layered design. Her pieces focus on the well-known landmarks of the city and the architectural aspects within. The process of sublimation turns the inks from a liquid directly into a gas when they are heat pressed onto the canvas, where the ink essentially becomes a part of the fabric and allows the texture of the canvas to remain untouched.RAW Location: RAW Street Fair Tenthttp://www.madcanvases.com
Marc E. SteinMarc Elliot Stein is a 2006 graduate of Columbia College Chicago, with a degree in traditional 2-D animation. Marc displays many of his works on a website on CafePress (www.cafepress.com/marcart). Among his proudest achievements are the children’s book, “Mango,” about a curious cat, and a line of products featuring his cat character, Yarnball. To produce these works, Marc prepares hand-drawn ink illustrations. He scans them into the computer and paints them using professional artist software. Marc also takes nature photos which he processes on the computer the same way. He then uploads his art to the CafePress website, and selects a product on which to place his work. Recently Marc’s works were exhibited at two gallery showings at the Prak-sis gallery on Irving Park Rd.RAW Location: RAW Street Fair Tentwww.cafepress.com/marcart

Maria GulloThe world is a treasure box of details. I pick up pieces of the detail off the street, out of my recycling bin, out of old photos and magazines, and out of thrift stores. When I arrange these random pieces together they become found again. When I am holding an old object such as an old wooden spool, I imagine where it came from. Maybe it came from the thread an older women used while she was sewing a quilt for her grandson as she rocked back and forth in her rocking chair. I like to think that I am breathing new life into these old pieces of history, allowing them to be a new treasure.RAW Location: 4501 N. Ravenswood (Urban Pooch)http://www.myspace.com/48145587/photos
Maria Isabel LoperaAs an Artist and Graphic Designer, the necessity to create has always been part of who I am. My work pursuits expression and development of ideas through the exploration of different subjects and mediums; therefore, it changes relative to the changes in my life. Each series is part of a inner search to connect with my true self. I’m inspired by ideas from other fields like music, architecture, photography, design, film and I think those bring freshness and vitality to my creative process. I almost never know how a painting or drawing would be ahead of time, and that’s part of the challenge and the pleasure that art brings me—to engage in to the work, remain open to the process, learn from it and keep on moving.RAW Location: 3717 N. Mariana SgarbiMariana Sgarbi was born in Rio de Janeiro. She has always had an artistic talent but decided for a legal career and only recently had time to put her passion for jewelry and creativity to work. Metalsmithing was her first choice and her Brazilian influences are clear in her pieces: Brazilian rainforest seeds, gemstones, shell and charms are used in the making of earrings, bracelets or necklaces to achieve a refined ethnic effect.RAW Location: 4043 N. Marilyn ProppPropp is concerned with the clash/coexistence between the industrial and the natural worlds. She uses engine and machine parts as source material, transforming them into animated biomorphic forms. In her current paintings, she works in a circular format in which there is continuous movement, and creates morphing and interaction between organic and metal shapes (under sea forms, tools, hardware, pipes and conduits). Individual puzzle-pieces make up the circle, addressing issues of interdependence, interconnectedness, and continuity. Three-dimensional tableaus, which she creates from crushed tailpipes and other metal detritus found in alleys and streets, are studies in rhythm that assist in her visual thinking.RAW Location: 4541 N. Ravenswood, 4th floorhttp://www.proppjonesstudio.com
Marjorie BoylesMarjorie’s work focuses on the figure, light and place. Women sit leisurely, and powerfully fill the canvases. The brush strokes are vibrant and the colors are rich and melodious. The weight and posture of the women and girls suggests an easy sexuality and playful dominion over their surroundings. The current works focus on the power of the feminine and reflects the artist’s ongoing interest in yoga and the interconnectedness of life.RAW Location: 4636 N. Ravenswood, #205
Mark YeeThe Chicago Office of Culture and Tourism selects Mark Yee to be a featured artist for Chicago Artists Month 2011. Represented by Black Cloud Gallery in the Pilsen Arts District Mark has upcoming shows in August and November, that will feature his large scale acrylic and mixed media on canvas artwork. His successful solo show “no negative space” in June 2011 drew upon inspiration from nature, trees, horizons and urban detritus. A Chicago native with national marketing experience, who paints at the Hyde Park Art Center, Mark is pushing large scale abstract painting to its the edges with his show “no negative space.” As a “process artist,” Mark Yee photographs and documents the interim layers of paint in his art. Meredith DytchMeredith Dytch is a Chicago artist living and working in Chicago’s Lincoln Square. Ms. Dytch has been in numerous group shows, and recently, her painting “Ashland Underpass” won an award for “Artistic Excellence” from the 2010 SAN show “Later Impressions.” Her work is in several private collections. She says, “I am interested in how our built environment co-exists, often uneasily, with the natural world. I often explore the way in which we seem to lead our lives embedded in looming steel and concrete. Other times I often focus on how, with the passage of time, man-made structures start to become congruent with the nature around them. I like to explore themes of impermanence, loneliness and mystery as expressed by the forgotten and crumbling structures around us.”RAW Location: 1819 W. Wilson (The Wilson Artists’ Group, at the Ann Ponce Studio)http://www.meredithdytch.com

Miki Shim-RutterI would like to think that my work is as beautiful as it is functional. While they perform the daily task of serving the needs of the user, they must also be beautiful to the eye by its form, pleasant to the holder and accent the everyday. Most pieces are hand-thrown on the wheel and made for a variety of everyday uses.RAW Location: 4611 N. Ravenswood 2nd Floorhttp://www.2frogsceramics.com

Nuria McNealArt is a window to other ideas and perceptions. In my paintings I explore the power of color and composition as captured in a canvas. The images in my paintings capture moments in time. I do not aim to reproduce the world, but to embody varied feelings in my paintings. These may be feelings that I have witnessed in other people or felt myself. The action of putting any ideas on a canvas stops them from being solely mine and makes them more universal. Our interpretations depend of our own experiences. My goal is to have each viewer interpret the images in front of them according to their own understanding of the world. This way the paintings stop being solely mine and become theirs too.RAW Location: 3701 N. Ravenswood 2nd Floorhttp://www.nuriamcneal.com
